Buying groceries is rough as is bills. Even going to the dollar store to buy gifts is very unlikely. Suggestions welcome on how to cheer up the holiday season!
I do not buy gifts for fmaily or friends. Sit your friends down and talk to them about celebrating Christmas by giving the gift of your time instead of your money. Everyone needs help with something. I quilt so my gift to my quilting friends was to professionally quilt a top for them. My niece cleans my house for me as a gift. I do my daughters laundry or cook dinner for she and hubby if she works late. Another friend fixed my kitchen faucet. We all have skills and talents someone needs. Share time not gifts
How about making some Hand made cards and ornaments?

Michaels has really nice loose paper for around 60 cents a sheet. Sometimes its even on sale, so look out. They also have coupons all the time, for example I think there's one floating around for 50% off a single regular price item. you can buy some sticky rhinestones and there's some ribbon at target in the dollar bin and make some ornaments and cards.
There's also empty clear ornament balls you can fill with sand and other things, and also embellish on the outside. They are like 50 cents a piece as well.
You could have a secret santa so you only have to buy one gift instead of many. For a girl, a nice gift is an ornate tea cup you find at a thrift store (maybe like $2-3?), and a box of good tea (Tazo) comes in an assorted box for like $3. Wrap very nicely in tissue. $5 gift!
you could also invite people over for a potluck. Make a pineapple upside down cake. The box and pineapple should be like $3. You can also make Jello gigglers and use cookies cutters to cut them, or layer christmas colors. Boxes of jello are cheap last time I checked.
There's cookie mix at the dollar store and sprinkles are about 1.50, you can make some Christmas cookies as well.
good luck!
