What electric guitar would you suggest for a complete beginner to buy?

I'm starting to get interested in buying a guitar. What kind of guitar would be a good option? Also, what would be a good price range?

I got this beginner kit for a really good price and it comes with the guitar, a small amp, a stand, some picks, and some other stuff. Look for this on Amazon:
Fender Starcaster Electric Guitar Pack with Amp and Accessories, Candy Apple Red
It's a really good deal and the guitar is really nice
    Keep on rockin!

dude, i dont even like fender but the best beginner guitar i ever played is a fender squire strat okay its the best deal for like 100 bucks 3 pickups a five way switch and whammy bar its a beginners paradise plus its more solid than any first act ive handeld and it's action is pretty good, i dont know what exact model mine is but its indonesian and has a rosewood fingerboard, but if you absolutely know your going to learn just buy a mid range like an ibanez or something so you wont have to buy three.

You should get an acoustic first.

When I opened this question, I intended to say "Stratocaster"; it looks like nearly everybody else beat me to it.

The Starcaster or Squier Strat are both pretty good choices for a beginner. Neither is a top of the line guitar, but as a beginner a $600 standard Stratocaster and a $100 Starcaster are gonna sound pretty much the same.

    You can always upgrade later.

It really just depends on your price price range.

Depends on what you want. My first name brand guitar was a Fender Squier Telecaster Affinity series. Cheap but I've been playing for 9 years and I still play that thing to this day. I put new pickups in it and it sounds great. My first first guitar was just some piece of junk from HH Gregg. They all play the same. Start with something cheap and work your way up. My first acoustic was some $300 Dean acoustic. Still have that one to. Don't sweat it. Learn how to play on something first and then worry about the quality of you instrument.
