How can a person who can't afford to traditionally celebrate Christmas, celebrate Christmas?

I've always pictured christmas as chestnuts roasting over an open fire, sitting on a comfy couch wearing a warm sweater, and looking at a nice big christmas tree with Nat King Cole or Dean Martin christmas music in the backround. I live in an apartment with no fireplace and we've always had a small plastic tree that hooks up to the wall and lights up. Tips?

What about going out and Christmas caroling with your local church choir / glee club? I'm sure someone in that group will help you land that idyllic scene.

You don't have to have a 'traditional' christmas to celebrate it. Lord I spend it alone every year. At times I"ve had like a 3' tree, at times a 4 1/2' ft tree and now I have a 6 1/2' tree in an apartment and I don't have a fire place either. What I do is decorate in other ways such as get fake poinsettias to set around, candles and pine cones for the coffee table, put the stocking hangers on top of my entertainment center and not only hang the stockings from them but also get some wire evergreen fake garland and use the stocking hangers to hold it and decorate that too rather than a fireplace mantel.
