It says discuss the relationship between the area of a rectangle with dimensions a and b and the area of a right triangle with legs of a and b. Anybody know what the relationship is?
probs sumfin to do with the right angle
area of the rectangle = 2 x area of the triangle
area of rectangle = 2*area of right triangle
The triangles area is half of that or the Rectangle. A rectangle is two triangles if put together the right way.
the area of the rectangle is twice that of the right-angle triangle as the rectangle can be formed by joining two of the right-angled triangles at their hypotenuse
Area of Rectangle= 2 times area of triangle
in other words...
Are of triangle= 1/2 times area of rectangle
rectangle:
A? = ab
right triangle
A? = ½ab
A?/A? = ab/½ab
A? = 2A?
The area of the rectangle is twice that of the right triangle.
Area of the rt triangle = ½ of the area of the rectangle
The area of the rectangle with sides a and b = ab
And
The area of the triangle with sides a and b = ½ ab
So if the area of the triangle is S and the area of the rectangle is A
Then
S = ½A
