What is the difference between ml e and ml?

I'm in Italy and most of the measurements are in ml e and then ml. It's particularly confusing when a box has a ml serving size (ex. 100ml) but then the box amount is put in ml e (ex. 200ml e). I tried looking at different measurement tables but I couldn't find any answers!

I believe E stands for "Estimated new weight"

    ml and oz are volume.
But the e is there when the volume presents the weight
    i.e. Net Weight: 250 ml e 8.5 fl.oz

I'm sure you will only see the e when you also see the words "new weight"

The "e" in "250 ml e" refers to a regulation of the European Union.
When an industry markets bottles of e.g. 250 ml it is impossible to fill them to exactly that amount, a measurement uncertainty is always there. The EU regulation specifies how much the actual contents may differ from the stated amount, whether that is in volume or in weight. I happen to have here a pack of ground coffee containing "500 g e".
Now you would like to know how much the actual content may differ from the stated one. I used to have the specification years ago, but lost it And believe it or mot, I have been searching the internet and cannot find the specification anywhere. Whereas this is a regulation to be followed by all manufacturers in the EU. Buy anything the supermarket and you will see the contents indicated with an "e". How many consumers do really know what they buy?
