How does the Riemann hypothesis have the potential to change the current understanding of mathematics?

In layman if you please. I'm not a math person I don't want equations necessarily. More like a simple summary as to how it differs. Thanks.

A solution to the Riemann hypothesis has the potential to unlock the prime numbers. Right now, the distribution of the prime numbers appears almost random - but there does seem to be some order, we just cant figure it out. Finding this pattern to the primes would be profound to mathematics.

For one, it would make mathematical algorithms simpler, increasing computer efficiency and speed, even.

For two, it would totally blow all known encryption techniques out of the water, making issues like national security and secrecy a real vulnerability.
