They repubs always preach "the market" will fix everything, so why are they throwing money at the collapsing financial system?
Isn't using tax payer money for bailouts "socialist" ?
Republicans are no longer conservative.
They are becoming just as liberal as democrats when it comes to government intervention.
Republicans have long been in favor of using tax dollars to help the wealthy. It's the working people they can't be bothered to help.
Summary: if you need a $200 tent because your house washed away, go f*%! yourself.
If you need a $100 million bailout, come right in.
You're sadly confused so let me help ya out with a simple fact: The purpose of these bailouts is to keep the entire world's financial system from melting down. Yes, really, Oh, and also o keep folks like yourself from screaming AFTER A MELTDOWN "Why didn't somebody DO SOMETHING!!!!!"
One can argue whether a particular action taken to stave of the unthinkable was appropriate or not but it doesn't change the reason for the action taken. Got it? Good!
Republicans know they have screwed up big time with there Reaganomics and deregulation, cut taxes and borrow what's interesting, that's the change McCain & Palin are offering.
Sorry, previous poster, but if the Republicans really believed in the free market, with no government regulation, then why are they stepping in with taxpayer money (OUR MONEY!) to bail them out? You can't have it both ways.
The banks are the ones who created this mess by making bad loans. That wasn't the government's fault, so why are they stepping in with our money? A restaurant near my house recently closed down due to bad management. Why isn't the government stepping in and helping them? They're a business, too.
Heck, if you think about it, loans are like gambling. The banks made a bunch of bad bets and lost. So let's all go to Vegas, make a bunch of far-fetched bets, and then ask the government to step in and pay our tabs. After all, it's not our fault that we had poor judgment, right? That's essentially what these banks are saying. "It's not our fault. Now, give us money!"
Again, you can't have it both ways. The banks made the mess, they deserve to go out of business. New companies will then step in and hopefully not make the same stupid mistakes. They'll get business because they make wise choices. This is the way free market is supposed to work. Instead what the government is saying right now is "if you screw the taxpayer and still manage to lose your shirt - no worries. we'll give you even MORE taxpayer money!" Worse still, the government doesn't want to put regulations into place, so there's nothing to prevent these banks from doing the EXACT SAME THING AGAIN! Just like the airlines. How many times have we been asked to bail those companies out of bankruptcy over the years? Seems like once a year at least one of them goes bankrupt.
