How is it America can preach competition for private enterprise?

Yet, when it comes to government they try to limit a choice to two parties. If more competition is better in the private sector wouldn't more competition be better in government as well. Isn't the government hypercritical. Why do they continue to make it so hard for third and multi party candidates. Isn't it quite clear that the two party system is a failure and nothing more than flip sides of the same coin?

3rd parties are free to promote whoever they can, but they insist on constantly pushing unpopular non A to Z candidates.

In this country most third party candidates are centralized around one issue. One of the major parties will have taken on the issue within a short amount of time. There is also no confidence in the average american voter in these candidates since they feel as you do.

Agreed. It should be easier for 3rd (and 4th) party candidates to get into office.

As it is today for most places, a strong and more progressive candidate, would only divide the left and make it easier for a conservative party candidate to get into office, as the two left leaning candidates may get more than half the total number of votes, neither would likely get enough on their own to beat a decent conservative candidate. Obviously, if reversed, the same would be true for conservative third party candidates.

We need to get Instant Run-off voting, to make sure elected officials reflect what the people really want.
