Thread: Is the difference between Republicans and Democrats compassion?

It seems like many of the conservatives here believe that all Obama supporters are either welfare cheats or illegal immigrants, or foolish people who have been duped or brainwashed into supporting welfare cheats and illegal immigrants. It's baffled me for a long time, but now I have a theory. Could it be that Republicans believe self-interest is all that matters, and that anyone who seems to act otherwise is either a fool or part of a conspiracy, whereas Democrats believe it's natural to care about people other then yourself? Is it that simple?

I always said it was "empathy". Republicans have a hard time understanding that not everyone has the same opportunities they had. They assume everyone who is poor is lazy, and we all know what happens when you "assume" something.

They do not care about other people. They want lots of money to protect THEMSELVES, and they buy guns to protect THEMSELVES.

Yes - Republicans have compassion for the taxpayer, and give to charity. Democrats far less so.

I cannot fathom how forcibly taking property from the person who worked for it can be labeled compassion.

People who say they care about people other than themselves should show it by using their own money rather than by confiscating someone else's.

Your whole theory is flawed by the simple fact that Republicans, individually, donate more to charities than Democrats.

We just don't see government as the Omnipotent answer to all of life's ills.

Also, if libs think the rest of us should give more, without giving of themselves, what does that say about liberals?

Most conservatives are the very people who volunteer their time in their community -- they take positions on their kids' school boards -- they employ people -- they donate time and money...etc. etc...

Most liberals talk a big game and then try to make it so by taxing someone else for it while living in their large homes, nice communities, driving the nicest cars, drinking top-shelf wine...

You call that compassion, I call it a weak-willed cop-out.

Classical liberals used to have a saying that Modern Liberals don't ascribe by -- "Think Globally, Act Locally". If everyone would do the same the collective would make a shift.

Instead what we have is a giant federal government trying to impose that will on all of us by taxing us to death.

Not sure about you, but "compassion" or "empathy" doesn't lie in that plan -- b/c it's been proven time and time again when you raise taxes, the lower/middle classes ultimately take the brunt of that burden.

Here's a novel idea -- if there were no poor people, who'd vote for the Democratic Party? If they actually did alleviate poverty, they'd also eliminate their primary voting block and subsequently their relevancy. No incentive -- very little action.

People should wake up -- prosperity if found in jobs...the ability for any Shmoe to walk out the door w/ 5 resumes in his hand and come home w/ a job that starts w/in the week. Anyone telling you differently is selling you something.

Sometimes "compassion" and "empathy" reside in the cold hard truth.

If you consider Republicans to be more capitalist and Democrats to be more socialist then.....

Republicans understand that greed and self interest is natural to being human and that capitalism is the natural conclusion to that. The greatest nations on earth; those that provide the greatest for their citizens and others outside of their country; are capitalist.

Democrats are emotional and tend to feel guilty for what they have. They think that giving it away will provide for those less fortunate. While it does it only does temporarily but frees democrats from the guilt they feel. Capitalism provides opurtunities for those that wish to take advantage of the system and provide for themselves and their families. A more sustainable outcome than just giving to those less fortunate.

Self Interest is not the same as personal freedom. How do you help people by giving them something for free? You help people by teaching them how to earn it for themselves.
Democrats want people to be stupid, stay stupid and depend on them for everything. Give me free health care, give me free money (welfare), give me everything...I know I haven't earned it, but sooo what. I'm intitled!!!!

If Democrats actually cared about other people more than themselves then they would be donating more money to charity than Republicans.

Instead - Democrats are very generous with other people's money.

Haven't you noticed that the people who most strongly support government funded healthcare are the people who do not expect to be the ones paying for it?

You have deluded yourself to the max. Conservatives believe that freedom is the key. Everyone has the right to succeed.

The left wing liberal loonies believe that government should control everything. And they believe they should control the government.

The government has wasted trillions of dollars on socialist wealth distribution programs. We are still up to our eyeballs in poverty, illegal drugs and crime.
