Thread: What are some examples in history of major paradigm shifts that results from humilty?

I need to demonstrate a case in history that was a massive change in thinking that was the result of someone (or some group) having an open mind and/or being humble enough to at least be open to possibilities.

I know there must be tons of examples out there, but I am drawing a total blank tonight. Anyone out there able to think of any? First good answer gets easy 10 points : )

There are many major changes.
One of them - and a easy to understand one:
- The earth is round - not flat
- The sun orbits around the sun and not the other way around.

The orbiting - thing may be difficult to understand for us, but it is a MAJOR change in thinking, because in middle ages church thought that universe was built around the earth for man by god.
By stating that Sun was the center of everything and not earth, mankind suddenly lost its position in the center of the universe and as the center of gods greation - at least that is what church believed.
