How were the thirteen colonies still connected to England before the Revolution?

What were some similarities that the thirteen colonies in America shared with England before the Revolution. Any economic, political, social or cultural similarities will help. Thanks

    Main trading partner: Britain.
Colonies were mostly Crown colonies, with a British appointed Governor (usually a Brit, the last MA governor being one of the few Americans appointed).
Most colonists were British, at this point.
Imposition, starting about 1700, of British law, including common law, across all the colonies.
