Is it possible for the ramus of the mandible to grow without pushing the mandible forward?

    FYI
This is just independent research, I am no ortho and not planning on becoming one. I have been studying the cranium though! I know when the ramus grows (vertically) it pushes the jaw forward, but can the ramus grow vertically without pushing the mandible forward?
