What's the difference between jelly and jam?

I'm not from american and i've always though pb&j sandwiches are made from the wobbly types of jelly but someone told me that the 'jelly' is actually jam. Is that true or is there an actual difference?

Jelly is just the juice of the fruit, Jam has the fruit in it.

Difference. Jelly is from the juice and is wobbly, Jam is made from the fruit and or peels., Then you have preserves, which is made from the actual fruit, and is in the end product. No peels. Also in that category is marmalade's, made from citrus. Orange or lemon. I remember to this very day when my mother in law quite well taught me the differences. I can almost laugh about it now. PBJ sandwichs can be made with any of the above.
