What are the requirements to become a resident of Vancouver BC?

I'm from Washington State in the US, and I think it would be really nice to go to college in Vancouver. I love it there, but I can't afford the out of state costs. I would be willing to move there and wait as long as I needed, and pay taxes, but what are the requirements?

With no education and no skills, you will not qualify to move here. There are a few ways you could get into Canada.....a visit visa, which does not allow you to work, access education or reside for more than 6 months in a year. A work visa, which without any skills or job experience, you won't qualify for. And a student visa.....which entails applying to the University, being accepted, then applying to our government with proof you can pay your tuition and living expenses while here. If you cannot afford the International Student fees, you won't be able to attend school here.

Your best course of action would be to do your schooling in the States, visit Vancouver often, get some work experience then decide if you would still like to come here via a work visa.

To become a resident, you need job skills in demand in Canada, good health, a clean criminal record and enough money to keep yourself for several months.

If you have not completed college, you are unlikely to be accepted. If you were to be accepted, the application would take about two years. You would then need to be resident in Canada for a year before you are eligible for the cheaper rate.

The reason that fees are cheaper for residents is that the fees are subsidised through taxes. People coming from foreign countries have not contributed to those taxes.
