What is a reasonable price to pay for a mountain bike?

This is for a teenager who would ride around the city mostly.
Any suggestions for brands, models, store chains, etc would be appreciated.

Even the cheapest ones are around $200. The most expensive are in the thousands of dollars.

If he/she is going to ride around the city, then get a hybrid instead. The smaller tires are still wide enough for light trails, but have less rolling resistance on city streets.
Unless you really want a new one, look in the paper or go to a garage sale and you can score a decent one for $100. New- $250 to $300 buys a decent hybrid.

Normal range for a decent one is $185-$250

    Check out blackmountainbicycles.com
They have all the top brands and free shipping

TIP: Whatever bike your teenager gets have him/her put a picture of himself/herself with their home address on the back. Fold it up and put it inside the handlebar tube then put on the handgrip. Makes the bike easily identifiable as theirs should it get taken or misplaced....
