What kind of paint works well for painting pumpkins?

I like for my kids to paint their pumpkins so they can be fully involved but last year we used the paints you use for ceramics and they washed off when it rained! What could I use that would stay on better?

When I was little we painted pumpkins too, and we always used acrylic paint.

To prevent the acrylic from flaking or washing off, I'd suggest getting a varnish or paint sealant that comes in a spray can (that way the pictures don't smear, and it goes on fairly lightly)...you should be able to pick up something like that at any hardware store and most craft stores.

    Good luck!
