What is a good amount to spend on a girlfriend for Christmas?

I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan and will be buying most of the gifts through Amazon. I've been with this girl for about 1 1/2 years but have known her for about 4. I know I'll be with this girl for life so I don't want to half ass her on Christmas.

Would $400 be a good budget or a little more?
Not sure if age has much impact on budget, but we are both 24.

Wow haha, $400 is a big budget. Most will spend 200 at most. But do what you feel is right, see somthing you want her to have and get it. Dont fret

it doesn't really matter the amount you spend on her as long as you think about what you're getting her and that it's something she'll enjoy, for example i'm not a huge jewelry fan but i love makeup so if my boyfriend went and spent an un-godly amount on a diamond necklace i wouldn't be nearly as impressed as if he would have just bought a thirty dollar eyeshadow pallette, make sense? also if he went and bought me expensive clothes i wouldn't be too impressed because i am a recycler with clothes (meaning i cut up old clothes to make my own new clothes :P) but i absolutely love music so if he knew my favorite band just released their new album and bought that for twenty dollars i would be ecstatic hope this made sense

I guess it depends on how much money you have. Obviously a rich guy is gonna spend more than a middle class guy and a middle class guy is gonna spend more than a poor guy. It's all about status and how serious your relationship is

Spend less time thinking about how much money you should spend, and more time thinking about what you should actually spend it on. I hate to have to go broken record on you, but it's the thought that counts. You could spend a fortune on a bunch of shit she doesn't want or need, or you could spend pennies on something very thoughtful. Guaranteed the thoughtful gift always gets the win. Unless, I guess, she's a super material girl, but if you really love each other, than gift exchanging is about appreciating each other, not buying each other stuff.

Maybe get her a bunch of things that cost up to $400. Like start with a teddy bear and some chocolate. Then get her a really cute Tiffany's necklace, or just ask her friends what she really wants. Your a really nice boyfriend, spending that much on a girlfriend is awesome(: she's lucky!
