What is gained by the media villanizing the tea party?

Watched a mid-day segment of CNN today and they seem to really be trying to do their best to make the tea party look bad. What do they gain from this? Why is this happening?
Do you think the tea party people want to help or destroy the USA?

Well, one thing they gain is readers/watchers. People who turn to CNN want to see some interesting news and they don't want a bunch background information or context screwing it up. Cartoon channel is just one click down!

In response to your follow up questions I would guess that "this" is happening because the Tea Party is somewhat disorganized and unfocused with regard to its message and goals and attracts a large number of people who are uninformed and uneducated about the issues they are protesting or supporting and consider themselves members of the Tea Party as a result of this.

I don't think the Tea Party wants to destroy the U.S.A., I just think that is what would happen if the "Tea Party" was in control.

Media outlets are owned by humans just like you and me. Typically the "boss" influences the reporters for news outlets either by direct pressure or by a unstated "rules." In the US most of the media outlets are owned by 1 of several companies. News Corp. is an example of one owned by Rupert Murdoch and family. CNN is owned by Ted Turner. Ted Turner has an agenda that is very liberal on the political scale. As a business man he is also interested in influencing popular opinion in the interest of selling more magazine and newspaper and TV ads. His political beliefs influence the way his company is ran, despite what they might say.

The Tea Party is a very conservative group that is focused on financial stability. They would like to change the government in a way that would focus on a reduction of taxes and the size and power of the Federal Government. Ted Turners personal beliefs and his viewership tend to believe that the only way out of a problem usually to ask the government to come in and "fix" the issue. The Tea Party sites many examples where government intervention not only doesn't fix the problem, but adds to the issue. This is a fundamental difference in beliefs, which creates a serious issue between the 2 groups.

The Progressives (opposite of the Tea Party) like Turner blame the the Tea Party for holding up a credit extension for the Government. (Yes just like you the government lives on credit cards...The progressives want to ask the loan companies to raise their credit card limit.) The issue is that the US credit card is "Maxed Out" and borrowing now is like paying off your credit card with your other credit card. All it does is create more debt and is a real problem. The Tea Party is stopping the US government from borrowing more money, which could have some serious consequences for the short term health of the US economy. But just like feeding overweight people fried foods when they have hunger pains, borrowing more money in the short term only helps the US (overweight person) for a little longer, then they need more because the US can't pay it's bills (hunger pains keep coming back.) The Tea Party wants a diet and the news outlets and progressives want to stuff their faces until they have a heart attack. As a tax payer it's up to you whether you want to take that diet before or after the heart attack.

For the record I am not associated with either party (Tea or Progressive) but I do believe I would prefer the diet now rather than a heart attach and surgery later...

1st the Tea Party represents the majority of the people but not the far right nor the far left.
2nd The "main stream media" doesn't think "We The people" are capable of controlling our own lives so they think we need them while most of us would rather rely upon God.
3rd they (,like CNN) want to control our way of life and shape our thinking.
My observation is that most far leftest in America including Obama (read his book) have read Marx and like many of Obama Czars admire Mao (it is on the record) in their own words.
It isn't what CNN has to gain it is what they will lose--their base if we go into a major recovery of prosperity.

There is no Media that could do more damage to the Tea Party than the Party does to itself.
They are primarily undereducated, ill-mannered Racists who have no clue what the future of this Country looks like. No matter what they want to achieve, they will be a Minority in the not too distant future. Sure hope that their Heirs get treated better than they treated Minorities in the past and present. Revenge is a X X X X X.

Feeding their ego's by bashing what they don't understand.
"Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of stupidity." Frank Leahy.
    Anything more than black-white, up-down, off-on, in-out, Republican-Democrat,
confuses them (wakes them up to an uncomfortable knowledge that more than what they know exists),
so they lash out in an attempt to discredit it's existence, so they can go back to sleep, safely believing they know everything.

The Tea parties were started by the billionaire Koch brothers as a front group to advance the Koch's agenda - http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/29/opinion/29rich.html?pagewanted=1 http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/08/30/100830fa_fact_mayer
What's not to disparage about a pack of dupes helping the Koch boys remake the United States to suit the Koch's own personal philosophy and agendas?

In the words of Thomas Jefferson:
"I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country."

He must be spinning in his grave over the Tea Parties helping Koch Industries take over.
