What caused a healthy Pomeranian dog to die when the only symptom was a nose bleed?

The dog became too excited, barking frantically to come back into the house. When they opened the door to let him in, he had a bad nose bleed. When he was picked up, he passed out dead in their arms. There was no evidence that was bit by a snake, hit by a car or had any marks on him.

Without taking the dog for a proper necropsy, everything will be a guess.

I would assume brain damage between the skull and the dura mater - this would result in a very quick acute reaction causing death in minutes

Probably from a ruptured aneurysm that was no doubt causing pain which was why he was frantically barking. The only way to know for sure is to have your vet do an autopsy. Most vets don't charge for this is you have a good relationship with yours.

Healthy dogs don't have nosebleeds. It could have been any number of neurological disorders. Take him to the vet for a necropsy.
