What can I do to improve cloudy fish tank water?

I have had my tank for 5 months now and the water has been cloudy for the past 2-3 weeks. I have been leaving the light off and doing water changes several times a week but still no change. This all started immediately after I changed a filter. The filter is still clean. I have an Eclipse filtration system. Is there anything I can do, or is this just bacteria growth?

change it back to the old filter/element type sounds like the new set up isn't filtering the water as good as it used to

well i believe it is a simple bloom of such cloudiness..did you filter the tank properly?? and plus if you want you can go to any petstore and ask for a soulution not sure on the name though..it cost less than 10 bucks and works!! i used it before..

    We have the same system...
Depending on the type of fish... do a 50% water change! We have goldfish in ours, and goldfish are dirty dirty creatures! We do a 20%-50% water change every 3-4 weeks. We've tried the no cloudy additives you can add, but over time your fish tank will turn into a swamp. Add one thing, then you'll have to add another to take care of the new creation and condition, and then another, and another. It's a viscous cycle. We only add the stuff that makes tap water safe. It's a bit of effort to have to change the water now and then, but it's better for the fish.

Guppies or less dirty fish mean you can get away with doing water changes a lot less often.

I would try activated carbon. it is good to do the water changes as well. also, check your water parameters. post them once you've tested.

I have a 36 gallon aquarium and I feel your pain. But I have learned ph is everything. First of all you are changing your water too much if you are doing it a couple times a week. That is messing your ph up and isn't good for the fish. Once a month is plenty, to move the stones around get the junk out of the bottom and you don't need to change the entire tank out. About 3/4 is enough. You need to find out what your type of fish thrive at and by a ph kits. Be careful with this kit, as it can change the water very quickly up and down ph's and you can shock your fish and give them ick. New filters can cause cloudy water at first until they get fully saturated but it will eventually clear up.

Check your water parameters. My tank is matured for years, and I noticed cloudiness. The next day a few dead fish. My Nitrates and Ammonia was high, days after more deaths.

Due to overfeeding, plants decomposing, AKA Nitrate Spike.

Do a water change and go back to your old filter.
