What can I do to get rid of damaged skin?

I suffered with acne for 4 f*cking years! Then when I finally find something good for my skin, my face is so damaged from all the acne! I look like hell! They all say I have a beautiful face but they don't realize that I feel so bad about how perfect I could have been if I never had acne! And plus, they're lying. Please, what can I do to get rid of all the damaged. Would tanning in the natural sun this summer help at all?

Tanning would only damage your skin more. I think you should go to a dermatologist. Maybe they can do something like a chemical peel? I think you should consult a professional and do not tan. That's bad for your skin!!!!

If they are telling you you look perfect, they probably mean it. That's a pretty big compliment and people don't usually throw the word perfect around too often.
Also, when it comes to facial problems, YOU notice it WAY more than OTHER people do. :] So, when you're looking in the mirror, that's going to be the first thing you see. It happens to everyone.
But the first thing someone else will see is your eyes, and chances are, they are not going to even notice. They'll just notice the change in your skin from after your acne and be blown away by how much you've changed. :]

By the way, I love your name. If it is Ian. One of my favorite guy names ever.

DO NOT GO TANNING UNLESS YOUR SKIN IS PERFECTLY NORMAL.FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW.

mix glycerine in rose water. if your sikin is oliy, add some lemon too. if its dry, DO NOT add lemon because it will only make your skin worse.

so its GYLCERINE-ROSE WATER- LEMON (only if your skin is oliy).

every night before you go to bed, wash your face with olay facewash. {Olay it the best because it doesn't leave your face dry after you wash it.} Then apply the mixture. you can apply it on your hands and arms too if you want.

When you wake up, simply wash your face with water and i'm sure it'll feel GREAT!

I think you should try murad products theyre the best honestly trust me theyre quite expensive but real good u will thank me for it. If you listen. Use there post acne spot ligtening gel for scarring try microdermabrasions as well or the age spot and pigment lightening gel if youve heard of murad. And the acne kit.

Nah, tanning wouldn't help at all. In fact, that would cause even more damage. The sun's rays prematurely damage the skin and since you had acne for four years, your own body was releasing natural hydrogen peroxide, which also, unfortunately, take an electron (just like free radicals do) and leave the skin damaged as well. Further bad news, all the stuff you used to combat acne have the unfortunate side-effect of sensitizing the skin to even more damage BUT, here's the good news: you can help your skin! Alright then, to begin with, you need Patience. This won't be easy. You have to do A LOT of research to ensure you're not wasting hundreds or thousands of dollars (yeah, cosmetic procedures/treatments are expensive). After that, if you're going to consult dermatologists, I suggest going to at least five. Some derms (just 'cause they're human) can be greedy and not really give a damn about you. Really, a waste. Go to at least five and make sure you know what they're talking about. When you do your own research, you'll know exactly everything they're saying and MORE that they maybe left out.
*Some stuff: Fraxel Laser, CO2 Laser, Subcision, etc.

You could also treat yourself at home by buying peels online but this is generally not recommended.

Oh, and sorry if this isn't exactly the answer you're looking for. As you may have figured out, different stuff works for different people. Probably by now, you have an idea of what ingredients make your skin breakout and what ingredients are "safe". You may know what methods of treating your skin work better than others. Take all this into consideration when finding a treatment for your scarring.

And again, patience!! You really need patience with this. I know four years have been long but unfortunately, seems to me that thte more you rush things, the more you screw up. Assess everything very carefully.

BTW, you may know this but go read some stuff at the messageboards of www.acne.org
