What is the best way to control odor in mouse cages?

Alright, I have 7 mice, i know sounds like alot and it is but it is a long story. I have the father and three females and three males. I don't want to put the father with the the other males, which are his sons, because male mice can be territorial. So overall I have 3 separate mouse cages and the smell is killing me. I clean the cages every week and i wash out the running wheel halfway through the week also. Does anyone know what i can do about this?

I dont really have any other ideas. just try cleaning it twice a week and get some air fresheners maybe. i know it will be alot of work but it sounds like you know it will be worth.

Try some different kinds of bedding--some work much better than others. I really liked that kind that was gray colored and kind of cardboardy papery and fluffy. (Used it for my rats' cages.)

Make sure the cages have no nooks or crannies where "stuff" could be hiding. If this is happening, you could be cleaning the cages over and over again but not getting at hidden dirt which is causing the smell.

You can get these Arm & Hammer disks that you can hang up to absorb odors (made for fridges) but I don't see why you couldn't put them near the mouse cages.

    Good luck!

I've got the best solution for eliminating the odor for good, safe and totally fragrance free. Go out and get a couple of the FRIDGE-IT activated carbon odor absorbers - little purple cube.only costs $2 - $3 dollars each and clip onto cage but not where the mice will chew on them. Totally unscented so it actually eliminates odor rather than covering up with some nasty fragrance and totally safe to use.
I've used these for worst smells than that including spoiled fish in car and for closets, fridge and even hermit crab tank which really smelled, etc. Also have two cats and use these on litter box - they are FANTASTIC> No spills or chemicals to worry about. You can buy these in kitchen gadget stores or just go direct - contact them at customerservice@innofresh.com and ask for order form. You get it right away.
Definitely the way to go. try it.
    Good luck
