Mine is going to be 14 this year, he looks a little bit more fragile but healthy.
Is there anything to worry about?
By parakeet i assume you mean budgie?
a budgie's lifespan on average is usually 10 - 12 years if fed and looked after properly.
wow! 14 years! i don't blame him for looking fragile ... lol
i wouldn't be to worried if he starts going down hill as he has lived a very long and full filling life by the sounds of it.
There are hundreds of different kinds of parakeets (long-tailed parrots). It's hard to determine what kind of species you owned as different parakeet species has distinct life span. Generally, most parakeet live in average of life span of 20 to 30 years or more if cared for properly in captive. 14 has reached its maturity and it's already an adult bird.
It depends what it's diet is, excersize etc. but if it's been cared for pretty well it should live about 15 years but if it dies earlier it doesn't mean you did anything wrong...If it's cared for very well then it might live to 20 it may even exceed that my mom had a green singing finch that lived till it was 24 and it's lifespan is shorter than a budgie's
I've only got this from books and such I've owned 2 parakeets one died about 8 months ago because of my cat which I then got rid of...My other parakeet is still alive so I haven't actually had experience with this
P.S. you did a good job caring for your parakeet I think the average life span is about 12 or 13 years
