I got my puppy three days ago, she is 8 weeks old.
I am trying to teach her to sit on command and sit and wait when I give her food.. I was wondering if it could be asking too much for her at this age. Is this the right age to start?
| what age can you start to teach puppies to sit and do other commands? |

yeah this is right but don't do it too much. When they're small they learn faster.
Yes, its fine to start training simple exercises like sit and wait etc. Keep the lesson short (2-3 minutes) and fun and lots of praise.
4-5 short lessons during the day are the rule. Puppies have very short attention spans and don`t do well if lessons are too long.
Well, done for starting to train your puppy.
The bond between you will become very strong through the training as she matures.
No, its not too early, doing little by little everyday and then making the sessions longer.
and Teach your dog the LIFESAVING tricks asap( sit, come, stay).
Good luck
i have also a dog i have teach him to sit and wait when he was two month old.
This is a great time to start teaching your dog simple tricks. This is also great because as she gets older you will be able to take him/her to a trainer for more in depth stuff, if you wish, and he/she will already have great discipline. The best thing to do is to use treats and praise them when they do a good job. Also its great for you dog to learn the word "no" or "bad" because then they will know when they are doing or have done something bad.
Eight weeks is not to young to start training, however you are training two different commands at the same time and this will simply confuse your puppy, irritate you and possible make you an owner that says your puppy is "stubborn" or even "dumb".
Sit is one command and Stay is another. You do not put them together until you teach each one separately;
Neither one is as important as a reliable "come" command, so seriously work an a reliable come before worrying about sit and stay. Here is a great site for positive training methods to help you learn how to train your puppy ;

My kinderpuppy classes start at 12 weeks because I feel a puppy needs to get acclimated to its new surroundings before any serious work in training begins.
Eight weeks is already quite late, as puppies can learn simple commands even before their ear canals open at about 2 weeks. The very best breeders are already stimulating, socializing and training their pups almost from birth.
I spent about an hour a day training and playing with both my Golden Retrievers at their respective breeder's homes from age 4 weeks before bringing them home at exactly 49 days (8-week plus people: read some science, please). Both my Pariah Dogs were rescued by me from a shelter at about the same age. The difference in their confidence, temperament, coordination and social skills is huge, and not just breed-related
FYI, none of the dogs were adopted at the same time; the minimum age gap between my dogs is 18 months, so each was able to receive plenty of individual attention as a puppy.
Your puppy is a knowledge sponge; she will enjoy every second of her training and reward your efforts a thousandfold. Good luck!
