My home was built in 1982, how do I tell what wire it was wired with 60c or 90c wire?

I want to add a replacement light in the family room and the box says it's rated for 90c wiring. It also says most homes built before 1985 are rated for 60c wire. How do I tell ? and If this room is not used much, is it safe to wire the light anyway?

My husbands a master electrician and he said, it's safe to wire the light anyway as long as you dont exceed the ampage rating.

When you remove the existing light, (with the power OFF), you can use a wire gauge tool, available at hardware stores. It is usually a wire cutter with several small, different sized holes, each numbered for a different sized wire. Are you in Europe? In the U.S., wires are sized by gauge, i.e. 12ga, 14ga, etc.
