How to stop a knit from unraveling without knitting skills?

Is there a simple yet effective way to stop a knit from unraveling?

I've bought a pair of fingered gloves and want to cut off the tips for fingerless gloves but the knit will unravel. I also bought a pair of fingerless gloves that have long cuffs I'd love to cut off, but again they will unravel.

I can't knit myself, and the knit is too small for me to try to tie the ends off.

Just wondering if something like dipping the ends in wax or something would work.

    Any alternate suggestions?

You can sew the fabric with very fine stitches before you snip. This may be a problem if you want a stretchy edge. In which case you might serge them. You can also run a needle and thread through each of the loops in one row, tie a knot and weave the ends into the fabric. And finally, you can do the needle and thread trick, but use elastic thread for a stretchy finish.

No, wax dipping isn't likely to work. You can try burning the edges if the yarn is acrylic, but it isn't going to look pretty or feel good against the skin (it will be bumpy). Sewing of some sort will be required.
