How often to I need to apply and impregnating sealer to my granite counters?

My granite counters had this impregnating sealer applied when they were brand new, two years ago. They still look good. Do I need to reapply an impregnating sealer again and how often? Should the sealer be specifically impregnating or will any granite sealer suffice?

Depending on how many people/how much use the counters (kitchen/bathroom/etc..) get, about once a year should be fine...

Lighter granites are generally are little more porous than darker granites. Applying two light coats of sealer now would be advisable (a quality stone impregnator from a hardware store or stone supplier will be fine). Some cleaning products are hard on sealers and cause a "waxy" buildup on the granite over time. It is better to stick with ammonia and water or vinegar and water for regular cleaning (specially designed stone cleaners are available, but not necessary). Sealing every two to three years is recommended.
