How much monthly wage would i get living in New York City?

I live in England and I am planning to move to New York City in a few years time. I have began browsing through apartments now and i have no idea what should be my limit for example $1000 or $1200, i just have no idea? What is the minimum wage and how much would i get a month working on minimum wage?

That's around four questions, ha ha sorry! I would really appreciate it if you could tell me an estimate,
    Thanks

go onto google to search for nyc's min wage, multiply that by 40 hours per week, and take 20% off for tax. simple!!!!!!

if you have the time to look on the internet for apartment listings, then you can easily look for the min wage in nyc. YOUR JUST BEING LAZY

Minimum wage in NYC is $7.15/hour. You can't really live in the city on that.
Edit: That's $286/week for a 40-hour week (and most places are 35 or 37 1/2 hours/week becasue they don't pay you for lunch). That's before taxes. The rule of thumb is not to spend more than about 25-30% of your monthly salary on housing, and you couldn't live in a cardboard box in NYC on $300/month.

As a UK citizen it is difficult to come to the US to work. You will certainly not be able to come legally and work in a minimum wage job.
What you should do if you want to come to NYC to work is to get a job with a UK company (Barclay's is huge in my building) that has a US presence and try to get transferred. You could also try coming here to go to college (university) but employment options would be seriously limited and it would cost a fortune.
