Thread: How many 1 inch cubes are in a pound of filet mignon?

I want to make kabobs and the recipes keep telling me to cut the meat into 1 inch cubes. I want to make sure everyone has 3-4 kabobs but I don't know how much meat to buy because I don't know how many 1 inch cubes are in a pound of meat?

A softball size is a pound, working in a meat department many years.

I'm guessing that each cube would be about 1 oz. so one lb of steak would give you about 16 cubes but I'd figure some won't be as pretty or that some would be not quite square. The recipe I looked at used one rib steak for kabobs to feed 4 people. Sometimes the butcher will cut them for free, then you'd know right while you were at the shop and if you get a good butcher- they'd be really "pretty" for entertaining.
