Thread: How long does it take to spean fluent Spanish?

Haha, I've always loved the language. I speak fluent Portuguese, I know that helps, but approximately how long will it take to learn the language and speak fluent Spanish?

it's pretty easy. I'm guessing it'll take you about half a year to a year.
if you take a class or something, or teach yourself via library books, practice it a lot and watch a lot of spanish tv/movies or listen to radio you'll do it no problem.

idk, i tried french lost interest in 2 years....

probably going to that country and hearing them speak the language for amount of time the body will naturally learn it and even if you dont pronounce the words right in a few months you can understand it perfectly. but to speak maybe a year or two if you have heavy influence in the language such as hearing it everyday almost all the time.

no it's pretty easy, and already speaking fluent Portuguese will definitely help. some of the words might even be the same, I think! I took it in high school with no other foreign language experience and it was really easy.

Speaking spanish is not that hard, writing Spanish is. You'll have a tough time on grammar...

Understanding and Speaking Spanish isn't that hard. I grew up with it, so i can't tell you how long exactly. Portuguese and Spanish are similar, so some words should help you like "Azul" is the same meaning and word in Spanish as it is in Portuguese. If you take classes, it should help you more.
Whoever said grammar is hard, yeah it is a little harder then it is speaking it.

like 8 years to understand and speak it fluid... That Mexican spanish because that spanish from spain SUCKS!!

if u already speak portuguese it'll take u about 1 year to learn spanish grammar and vocabulary but as for speaking it i suggest getting a very good teacher cuz the pronounciation is way different. just like other users said, once u have a base, start watching the news in spanish (cuz reporters, journalists speak better) then, when ur used to it, u can learn by watching soaps and series. i cant say how long it'll take u cuz it all depends on the amount of time u dedicate to it and on how smart u r, ofc
