Thread: How to have a wedding in vegas when 1 sister is underage?

We want to have our wedding in Las Vegas then throw a big reception back home the following Saturday. All works well but everyone in the wedding party is over 21 except my baby sister who is 19. Shes a bridesmaid. How do we have the wedding & party afterwards in Vegas with an underage family member?

You can't, hon. Not if you want to hit the tables and go drinking. You already know that she'll feel left out unless you pick places where you don't need an ID to get into.

Vegas' pull is drinking and gambling. Neither of which she can do. Some clubs will allow her in...but most won't. Some casinos will allow her in, some won't. If they do...how left out do you think she'll be just standing in the background?


Sounds like your best bet is look for clubs that will allow those over 18 in. She won't be able to drink, which is fine, but she'll still be able to dance and have fun with everyone.

I'm a little confused. What is it about the wedding in Vegas that makes it age of majority only? Most weddings have alcohol present, so that's not a problem, just your sister shouldn't drink to avoid any legal problems. Were you planning on gambling after the wedding or something? She could always attend the ceremony and dinner and then she's on her own thereafter.

PS: A wedding reception follows a wedding. A party a week later is just a party.

I dont understand why your sister can't be at the wedding? Will your parents be there? How old are you? It is perfectly fine for her to be in Vegas, I used to go all the time when I was underage with my parents and no one cares as long as there is an adult with you at all times. Of course she can not drink, gamble (or even stand at the gambling tables) or enter the clubs which takes out all the fun of being in Vegas. She can walk the strip, shop, go to restaurants, go to the pool, and pretty much do anything that does not involve alcohol or gambling. But its your wedding, your day, do what YOU want. She will understand. Maybe your can give her a special gift like a spa package or something to make it up to her. Make sure the place that you want to have the wedding at does not have a age limit.

1. She can still come with you as a legal adult, but if you're partying on the Strip, then I would honestly leave her at home. If she gets caught in any one of those casinos, she's done for. She cannot be on the gambling floor AT ALL.

2. Fremont Street, or Old Vegas is a different story. They don't care there. It's a little East of the Strip, maybe about 20 minutes by cab. Now, I'm not *telling* you do go there to make sure that she has a good time (wink) but it's a possibility. I went there plenty of times when I was under 21, and they never bothered me (wink). But of course, you want to be responsible

3. I have learned only now that a reception can ACTUALLY BE HELD UP TO 3 WEEKS AFTER THE WEDDING for purposes such as this, like destination weddings or death in the family or for money and timings' sake. Some people cannot do a reception right after the wedding, and I get that, but I just learned last night that proper etiquette on this matter stands that a reception may still be called as such in order to celebrate the wedding as long as it is still within 3-4 weeks of the wedding date. Some couples go right on their honeymoon or have other things that need things to do.

However, your 19 year old sister will NOT be allowed in areas that serve alcohol and/or anywhere near any gaming tables as others have stated. Doesn't sound like a good option to me unless you want to ditch your sister on your wedding and go out after the wedding without her.
