How do I tell my friend I don't want to go on a road trip around our home state with her?

We are planning on a road trip around our state for spring break. She's my best friend, and she's great, but I am realizing that what she wants out of a trip is way different then what I want. She is very set on going and I don't know how to tell her that I don't want to go anymore.

Fake a toothache the day before the trip.

I understand exactly what you are going through. It happened that I told a friend my vacation plans one year and she invited herself along. At first it seemed like it would be nice to have a traveling companion till I realized that she might not be as flexible about the itinerary as I would be. The closer the date for departure got the more anxious I became, till I finally canceled the trip completely. She was pretty upset, but I knew I would not enjoy the trip with her along. Later that summer, I took a trip without announcing it to anyone. And I had a great time.

Why not be honest and ask what's really on her mind? Tell her about your concerns and go from there. If she's truly your best friend, being open will not bother her or you.
