Does anyone know what I can cook for my boyfriend?

It's my boyfriend's 18th coming up and I wanted to cook him a special meal, just the two of us so we can spend some proper time together before I go to uni and for his birthday. He's a very picky eater and I have no idea wot to cook him. Please help!!! And how should I decorate the table to make it look nice?
I said he was picky... he doesn't like mash potato (I mean who doesn't like mash! But thats another story). I'll have a whole day, and was wanting to do a three course meal. I'm a pretty good cook, I was going to do homemade profiteroles for dessert. I can follow recipes and adapt them with ease. So I can do quite a bit. As he is picky however it's best to go simple-ish but I want to impress him as it'll be the first proper meal that I cook for him.

I guess it would depend on what he likes and mostly what he doesn't like - since you said he is a picky eater.
Also would depend on your cooking skills - did you want gormet or simple?
A few more details would bring some great answers.

if you want to keep it a surprise, ask his mom what his favorite food is and how to cook it. candlelight is good to decorate with too.

Most guys like a nice steak with a sauce (sauce depends on his taste - diane sauce is good) then serve it with proper home made chunky chips. We dont go for flowers too much so a lilly in a nice vase would do and a few candles. Make a nice chocolate mousse for dessert. Although this is a simple meal it will be very tasty amd mean a lot to him if everything has been made fresh by you! Good luck.

call his parents and ask them what he likes, then prepare it.

For easy recipies and explanations I always go to www.reluctantgourmet.com

I'm a huge fan of tea lights (little candles) when I decorate. You can get a big bag of them for about $5 and they look really nice if you group about 3 together or just spread them around the table/room.
