I don't want to recommend anything since I don't know what Zone you are living, so the best thing you can do is buy a book on Perennials. Mark all in the book that is recommended for your Zone.

My book had been purchased 10+ years ago and is still my first choice to look through for any new landscaping job I plan whether it is for ground cover in shade, tree, shrub or flowers including when they bloom, for how long & how tall. There are many beautiful flowers that live through even Zone 3; there is even a flower that blooms through the snow.

There are several perenials (come back every year) that would be good choices. I have roses that the previous owner of our home couldn't kill. They are beautiful. It really depends where you live and how harsh your winters are. I would call a local greenhouse and find out what zone you are in and what plants are good for your zone. Good luck and God bless.
