Can I start the melody of a rock song with a violin?

Well I am in a band 2 guitarists, 1 base, one drummer, 1 keyboard player, and I am the violin player/singer. I am very good with writing music down and all and I am wondering if I can make the melody with a violin. Usually the player with the acoustic guitar creates the melody. I want to make some jams too but I don't know if it is possible with to start from scratch with a violin.

It is. Some awesome songs start with violins or cellos.

When it comes to music composition, there are no rules. Do whatever you think sounds good.

Of course you can. The violin is well suited to melody is it not?
