What is the most important element in digital music playback ?

I use my pc as my stereo now, so when listening to digital music (mp3s) through a pc, what is most important the headphone/speakers, the original source file or the sound card ? Does the software make a difference i.e. i-tunes vs. songbird ? Is FLAC worth the extra disc space ? Lastly, how can I get the most out of listening to digital music ?

i'm very happy to answer your question, hope you are music lover like me. First of all buy a good sound card. may be from creative as i have now. buy a good home theater speakers with 5:1 of 7:1 check out review of good home theater speakers.

Music quality also depends upon source file. (ie) look for 320Kbps bitrate or higher the bitrate the quality will be good, and size of the file also increases. as for as softwares there's not much difference, us itunes its good to manage music files.

For good headphones go for headphones with noise cancellation. Great earphones are available from bose technologies, sen heiser, even creative, etc. check for dB level and frequency response.

In the end to get more out of listening to digital music buy good sound card. check the best available in the market and buy it. U will surely see the difference in music playback.
