What is the diference between a video splitter and a video switcher?

I need to distribute HDTV - what should I use a splitter or a switcher?

You need a VDA (Video Distribution Amp), one that will distribute component, not composite video. Here's an example below...

A video switcher is a proprietary device used for routing satellite signals between satellite boxes (Dish Network switchers for Dish Network boxes, DirecTV switchers for DirecTV boxes).

A video splitter is used for Over The Air signals (regular and high definition) or basic (non digital) cable to multiple TV?s

If you?re on satellite ? you need a switcher and multiple boxes for High Definition on multiple TV?s.

If you?re fortunate and receive HDTV with an antennae ? an inexpensive splitter will provide glorious High Definition on all your TV?s.

If you have basic cable ? you don?t have High Definition. A splitter will distribute the standard definition signal to all your TV?s

    Hope this helps.
