I was taking pictures on my camera and I tried to look back at my photos but they were almost all gone! Out of 560 photos, 5 were left! Can someone tell me how this happened?
You can 1) stop using the card until you can recover the corrupted image files(you can just buy a second card and use it until you can recover the lost images). 2) buy one of the image recovery programs like the Lexar Rescue3 program 3) avoid deleting images from your card to make room for more.
Sandisk has a software rescue pro file recovery utility was included with CF memory card.
It can recover photos, files & videos.
Never had to test it yet. Just try not to buy off brand or cheap memory.
Buy the best memory you can afford.
Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for:

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

The reason this occurred is that you likely never formatted the card. The card will work fine in the beginning but eventually will corrupt. AFTER you've recovered the photos, format the card in your camera to prevent this from happening again (dig out that instruction manual to figure out how). Keep in mind formatting will also totally erase your card, so again only do this after you've recovered the photos.
You can use photo recovery software such as advanced photo recovery available for free below
