Is it unethical to lie about work experience?

I am searching for a job in retail; however, I have never worked in that department before. To increase my chance of employment and further enhance my resume, I want to put down that I have worked in retail before. Is this a sound idea given the fact that they may not even look into it?

Unethical to lie? Of course it is. You might get away with it, but if they catch you lying you'll likely get fired, and if you claim experience you don't have, youi'll very possibly give yourself away.

They may figure it out themselves. Don't lie. Play up your strong points and tell them why you have an interest in retail and want to learn more about it.
