    2006 federal 1040
Prior year returns MUST be mailed to IRS
If you didn't have to file but want to get back your withholding, you may file and will not be subject to penalties and interest if you have refund coming. And past 3 years, IRS won't pay you your refund.

use a 1040 from 2006. you must paper file the return. efiling isnt allowed for past year taxes.

you can go to www.irs.gov to print out the forms you need.

You'll fill out whatever forms you would have filled out if you had filed on time. If you could use the 1040EZ, you still can - but make sure you use the 2006 version, and 2006 instructions - you can downloan them at irs,gov - go to forms and publications, then to previous years, then to 2006. You can't efile a return from an earlier year, you'll have to mail it.

Prior tax returns must be mailed in to the IRS< Use the appropriate Form 1040, 1040A or 1040 EZ for the tax year 2006. Mail the return to the address list on the form.
If you are filing your tax return for 2006 b/c you filed your 2007 and IRS is holdiing your return then you have a different address to mail the return to, the address will be in your IRS refund hold letter.

You are right, you can still file for 2006, as for the forms that you would use, I would think that you can go ahead and use 1040 EZ if you had no dependents. You can go to www.irs.gov then go to publications, tax year 2006, down load the 1040EZ complete and mail it in, only the current year forms can be electronically filed, best of luck
