How long will it be before overpopulation becomes a huge problem?

In China for exmaple, they have the one child policy! So, will the same thing happen with other countries?

I think it became a problem about a hundred years ago when we hit 1 billion people. 1 billion is a lot of people and it is obviously having devastating effects on the environment.
Before human were walking around the extinction rate was 1 species per million per year. Now each year its been 100-1000 times that, varying year to year. The statistics are mind boggling.

It will happen eventually, since Human population grows at an exponential rate, that means human population should reach a carrying capacity soon. You'll probably see some sort of one child policies spring up in India and Indonesia very soon since they are smaller countries than America in terms of geographic size. Look around the years 2030- 2050 for human population to become a big issue. Lets say we were able to move to Mars, and transport a significant amount of our people to there, than w could populate as much as we want for the next thousand years!

yeah itll probably start to happen in countries such as india soon.

itll take awhile for it to happen in the united states because china has over 1 billion people while the US only has like 300 million.

Definitely already a problem. The species extinction rate mentioned above is good evidence. There's even proof in our own health: increased asthma, thanks to pollution, among others. Not to mention: habitat fragmentation, leading to population loss; algal blooms, thanks to nutrient run-off; global warming; hunting; trash dumps, etc.

It would be fantastic if governments could regulate how many children a couple can have. However, China's government is generally not looked to for ideas on how to lead a country. I think 2 should be the limit, but some people disagree based on religious reasons (objections to birth control - ridiculous if you ask me). Mostly people are just selfish and ignorant about the impact of more children on other species and the health of the planet, so they keep reproducing. Very sad. People should be neutered after their 2nd child - mom AND dad.

World population explosion is already a problem and we're seeing signs of it daily, everywhere. There are rational solutions to the problem. 1. limit family size to some factor where birth rate falls well below death rate; 2. place a 1 year education requirement on couples before marriage and starting a family. The educational requirement should cover: family development, long term relationship development; and, career development. Those should be the minimum requirements. Such a program would weed out those unfit for marriage and family and are not willing to do what it takes to upgrade their abilities and capacity. Like the products of evolution through natural selection, this would create a better, stronger, family unit and better adapt offspring.
    3. Children, soon after birth, should be "chipped" with a microcircuit that emits some form of energy that wouldn't interfer with normal development but would specifically halt the development of some key component in gametes needed for successful fertilization. Once the child matures, finds a mate, meets societies requirements for marriage and creating a family, the microchip could be neutralized in some convenient fashion. Once neutralized, normal reproduction could proceed. Such a concept might make for the perfect method of birth control.

Anyway, the process would lead to a better stronger family unit, the need for less jails, prisons, and mental institutions. It would lead to creating a better world society as a whole, in my opinion.

If we humans do nothing, we will breed ourselves right out of existence.

It became a huge problem in the 1950s. Without "green revolution" crops, we could not have a population of 6.7 billion.

It ALREADY IS a huge problem. We breed fast and have few natural predators or epidemics to keep a check on our numbers. Massive starvation and disease in many areas are the symptoms of the problem of too many people for available resources. I'd support a one child policy like China has, EXCEPT for the forced abortions. That' tatamount to rape.
