I am having some brake work done and that was one of the questions I was asked, whether my car was made in the USA or in Canada. What difference does that make on brakes? The mechanic said it was the first time he had ever had that question come up.
| Why would the mechanic need to know where my 98 Cherokee was manufatured? |

different factory's may have different parts suppliers...and maybe a change was made at one factory and not the other..or recall at one not the other
sometimes the cars made in canada have slightly different parts than what is made in the US.......it could be anything as to why.......different size brake pads....different rotors.....har dto say why it matters but if the parts store is asking there is a reason.......you ca find your vehicles manufacturing location on the side of the drivers door on a little sticker!!!!
In YOUR case with a 1998 Jeep Cherokee it doesn't matter where it was manufactured. Some believe that the vehicles build in Canada are more likely to have problems and fall apart "due to cheaper parts used". I don't know if it's true, but for your particular Jeep the parts aren't different(in USA or Canada). Now 2WD or 4WD would be a more sensible question if any but in your case, front brakes on the 2 and 4 wheel drives are the same brake pad, caliper, and rotor part number. It is also possible that he was just a very curious mechanic.
not sure why he is asking that i am a tech and i checked on line with napa and i dont show any thing like that there is only 1 choise for parts
