Thread: What happens when your credit card gets denied at the gas station?

Do these gas pumps not allow gasoline to come out ? I know that at old gas stations you could "pump and run". How do gas station owners protect themselves from pump and run incidents rather than simply calling the police and having cameras.

at my gas station it's pre-paid. So it will asks, how much $ of gas would you like to buy. You enter say 30.00. It will ask for a confirmation for $30.00? You say accept, than it will ask to swipe card and than for your bonus points. Than you pump the gas for 30 bucks. It will automatically stop when you are at 30. Than it prints out your receipt.

No gas will come out if your card is denied. If you pay cash in advance they will set the pump to give you a set amount. No more pump and run except at places that let you pump first....WalMart does that but guess they dont' have much pump and run or they would no longer do it.
