i think creativity. i know you dont want to have to gasp for air after a scentence, or read choppy short scentences. but the thing i hate most is a boring old book that i use to fall asleep. one that is predictable and not exciting at all. one that lacks any sort of creativity. sorry that was long!!! anyways how about you?

    Hi there,

The one is closely linked to the other. Writing needs creativity. Without creativity, there'll be no style - and without style, creativity won't exist very long, because people would stop reading after three pages.

I`d have to disagree with you. A good author can write about a topic that may be boring or not creative, but somehow make it very entertaining. I have seen this happen before. For instance, in any book about vampires the storyline is bound to be cliched but good writers can make even them interesting.

But I do believe both are necessary to write a good book. Plus, style comes right with creativity, without one you can`t really have the other.

Sorry, my answer was long too! xD

The mark of a good and talented writer is that he or she is able to successfully cultivate both in the work.

Without creativity, fiction is boring, but if there isn't a good writing style, it's painful to read. They're not mutually exclusive - quite the opposite, in fact. It's a fine line, to be sure, and a talented writer is able to overcome the obstacle of finding it without crossing it.

I hate to link this to something so trite, but look at Twilight. While I'm reluctant to say there's any creativity there, (She has men glittering, so I guess that's some.) it's over-shadowed by horrible writing. I think both are a necessity. You're writing to convey an interesting story, which needs some amount of creativity, however you don't want to come across as borderline illiterate.

Creativity means nothing if it cannot be adequately expressed.

the only way you can develop good style is to have creativity. some book's authors are recognisable by their style of writing. it is not so much about grammar.. in my stories i tend to write very long or very short sentences. it's just my style.

    Hey,
See i love writing myself. I find it very hard to find good ideas. Therefore you do need creativity. If you are creative then you can come up with a great story that no one has ever written about. But even if you do have a great idea, if you don't write the idea out in word the right way, then you won't get noticed for that great idea that you started out with. Whereas if you can write great but always do the same old boring stuff, then well, since there is no originality to the story, no one would read it. So that is why writing style and creativity go hand in hand.

The two are essential to each other. Creativity is a key part of any writing style and creativity is lost if the writing is bad.

If forced to choose I would say writing style. A good writing style can make anything interesting. Look at Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck. Just hearing the basic plot you would think that it would be extremely boring but it's written so well that you find you are compelled to read more.

without imagination there would be no style to choose from
