Abridged is censored and unabridged is uncensored.

The unabridged is complete. The abridged is edited for size and content.

An abridged book means that it's been shortened, like unnecessary detail has been taken out, but the main idea is still there. Unabridged is the book in it's entirety.

unabridged means it is the entire book, as originally published. abridged means it has been edited- usually the stuff that is cut out isn't essential to the story, but I'm not sure how those decisions are made
