How did regular people (non-bankers) make money during the depression?

I know many people were forced off their farms and homes and whatnot and many thousands died of starvation and preventable diseases, but some people made money. How did they do it?

Gold stocks .. the trick is to know when its time to unload them when the depression starts easing up.

Buy them now ... they are cheap .. went up today a little but still cheap cheap cheap.

There is plenty of work that actually thrives in bad times (not enough for all though) repo men, credit controllers, bailiffs, cheap restaurants and services that are just good enough for the rich punters to trade down to. People will make fortunes out of the black market (untaxed work and trade). Criminal justice will have a field day. Cinemas actually sell more tickets to the unemployed who pretend they are going to work! Bankers don't actually make any money, they redistribute it according to carefully planned rules for a cut off the top. Problem is the people who really run these things got sold a pup by those powerful enough to demand that the regulations got legally annulled and bypassed until it became a free for all that had to collapse.
Choose the right work to get into for the times, life is all about timing if you learn nothing else!
