How can I convince my parents to let me take ballet at the same time as taking tap lessons?

I already take tap but I would REALLY love to take ballet as well. I have a birthday coming up and so one of the things on my list is to take ballet lessons along with tap. What else can I do to convince my parents to let me? I LOVE dance; it's my life, and I want to be a prosperous, well-rounded dancer.

if you love dancing, thats what you should say! i took both for a long time, along with jazz and hip hop... learning different styles is what makes you a great dancer (and keep you from getting bored)

I think you're making a mistake wanting to do tap and ballet. Ballet is so intensive that anything that confuses you (which tap would) takes away from your ability to do ballet well. If you want to do ballet, do just that. If you want to be well-rounded in dance, stay away from ballet. Yes, you could take some baby ballet lessons, but you would not learn anything worth knowing from doing that.

Tell them the educational benefits. Tell them on how your life will improve with taking ballet and (if you can) tell them how you will be able to pay for a part of it(I know... who wants to pay for something...but it depends on how bad you really want to take ballet). Tell them on how you can keep your grades up even tell them how it can make you a better person.(hope this helped!)

The main reason to take ballet under any circumstances is that ballet is the foundation of all dance forms! It improves your flexibility, musicality, grace, posture, performace, and carriage. It is imperative to a good dance training because it teaches the basics of all forms of dance. While tap is very different from ballet, ballet will help you improve at tap by improving these qualities in you.
I hope they let you take ballet lessons. Let them know how it will improve your tapping and overall abilities as a dancer. While it is true that ballet can be exhaustive or intense (as others have stated), taking one or a few ballet classes a week would not be this way. It would simply help you grow in all forms of dance and add another style of dance to your studies. Good luck and happy dancing

If I were you I would let them know that ballet is probably the most technical style of dance and those who master ballet often find it easier to transition to other styles later in life. Furthermore, most dance companies and Broadway shows insist that their dancers have at least some ballet in their background. Being involved in a variety of dance styles can also improve a college application and increase your chances of being awarded a dance scholarship for school.

    Hope that helps!
